Biography

I began my art career as a teacher and muralist. (I had to find a way to make all the mismatched wedding towels match in the bathroom.) Later I left teaching and opened Studio Rich, painting tile murals in kitchens and baths, porcelains, furniture, and fabrics. I was also involved with the Gallery at the Dock in Tacoma. In time, I closed my business to write and illustrate children’s books. Returning home to Poulsbo to care for my mother, I was involved with the Gallery at the Frame Shop for a brief time. I am now most pleased to be a part of the Kingston Art Gallery. Welcome!

I paint Peace. Our connection with Nature soothes us. We see the changeless change of the sky, and are transported to childhood, lying on our backs, finding shapes in the clouds without a care in the world. If our world is fast-paced city life, how nurturing it is to see a painting of what we miss! We can look at a painting and are transformed from our troubling times and are renewed. Suddenly, we are there, at rest.

I paint Beauty. Roses unfold gracefully. As in ourselves, every stage is beautiful. They represent the evolution of the soul. The wonder in them touches a wonder in us as we exchange them as tokens of love, of joy, celebration, or comfort.
